- Construct Side Units: Sew light green C and C reversed pieces to a red-orange triangle (Pattern B) to form a side unit. Each side unit should measure 6½” x 2½”. Make a total of 52 side units.
- Combine to Complete Star Blocks: Arrange the star center, four plum geometric squares, and side units as shown in Diagram 4. Assemble by rows, press seams toward side units, and join rows to form a 10½” star block. Make 13 star blocks in total.
Step 2: Assemble the Irish Chain Blocks
- Construct Strip Sets for Four-Patch Units: For the plum and black four-patch units, sew a black floral strip with a plum damask strip to form Strip Set A. Cut into 24 segments. Sew pairs of segments to create 12 four-patch units, each measuring 3” square.
- Assemble Black-and-Ivory Four-Patch Units: Repeat the strip set and four-patch process with ivory toile strips to create black-and-ivory four-patch units, following the same dimensions as before. Make 24 four-patch units.
- Assemble Chain Block Center: Combine one plum-and-black four-patch with ivory toile rectangles and a D segment (made from black floral, ivory toile, and plum damask strips). Press seams toward the center and repeat to complete 12 chain block centers.
- Complete Irish Chain Blocks: Join four four-patch units and a chain block center, following Diagram 11. This should yield a 10½” square Irish Chain block. Repeat to make 12 blocks.
Step 3: Assemble Quilt Center
- Lay out the star and Irish Chain blocks in an alternating pattern across five rows. Sew each row, pressing seams toward the star blocks. Join rows to complete the quilt center.
Step 4: Add Borders
